Plant Biotechnology has a critical role in the development and infrastructure of nations. The increasing threats to plants from natural and deliberate introduction of pathogens continue to challenge the crop production and environment. The accurate and early detection of pathogens is the only first crucial step in effective plant production and disease management. The failure of conventional techniques to identify plant pathogens has prompted us to establish molecular diagnostic methods which are reliable, accurate and cost effective above all users friendly. These methods can detect and quantify different pathogens simultaneously. Our immediate targets are to collect, identify and characterize pathogens (fungal, bacterial, and viral) of orchids and orchards of Pakistan.
Our other working areas include medicinal plant research, molecular identifications of plants, plant immunology, etc.
