About the Department

The department of Economics has turned four this year as it started functioning in July 2008. In coherence with NUST the department had been housed in Rawalpindi (Lal-Kurti Campus) till December 2008. The year 2009 proved a milestone as it brought us a fully developed campus at Sector H.12 in Islamabad.

Every department needs hands that can sow the seed of knowledge in the soil and nurture it so that the fruit of wisdom ripens. Professor Dr. Ather Maqsood Ahmed and Dr. Asma Hyder are one of those faculty members who pioneered the department of economics. Right from its inception the department has been chaired by Dr. Ather Maqsood Ahmed who is a renowned contemporary economist. He has shining track record of serving in key organizations of Pakistan such as Federal Board of Revenue. We also take pride in telling that Professor Dr. Ashfaque Hassan Khan is an integral part of Economics department as he too is a celebrated economist and he has held top level ministerial positions in the Pakistan Government.

As the stream of time flowed the department acquired various faculty members specialized in different areas of Economics, Econometrics and Statistics.  Currently we have twelve faculty members with each one adding a blend to the chromatic strip of faculty’s profiles. We have five faculty members who have done PhD and three are currently pursuing their PhD degrees and at degree completion stage.

We believe in open and transparent research keeping this in view we encourage all faculty members to critically analyze the research work done by the students/colleagues. We have total 300 students enrolled in our UG programs and 80 in PG programs.
