Head of Department Message

I welcome you to the NUST Survey Department web page.
We aim at imparting quality survey knowledge and skills to the prospective Civil Engineers, GIS Engineers and Environmental Engineers so that they may meet all the likely professional challenges in their carrier. To realize this objective we employ the most modern surveying hardware, software and techniques for the education and training of our students.
Our program is a unique blend of classic survey techniques and modern survey techniques. The training start by using the basic instruments for taking different measurements manually in the field. The acquired data is computed and the results are plotted manually to produce the required drawings and maps. These hands on practices are useful to create a mind set of precision and accuracy in field measurements.
In the next stage the students use the most modern survey equipment in field. Data acquisition for different tasks is performed by Total Stations and GNSS receivers. The acquired data is processed on computers by using survey/mapping software and hard copy drawings and maps are printed on plotters.
Throughout the course, emphasis is laid on giving practical training to each individual student by deploying as many instruments as possible. Having acquired these survey skills, our graduates are expected to carry out Topographic Mapping, Highway Alignment, Leveling and Contouring, Setting Out of civil engineerings projects and monitor the quality and the quantity of different projects.
Field visits are arranged for students to different construction sites to show them the real life working conditions and develop bonds with industry. Guest speakers are invited to share their experiences with students.
