NUST Summer School Closing Ceremony - 3rd Batch 9th August, 2019
NUST Summer School on AI was conducted in summer 2019 (June, July and August). The school was aimed at children aged 10-14 years and separately for aged 14-19 years. A total of 154 children attended the summer school (91 in group 14-19 years, 63 in group 10-14 years). In accordance with NUST focus on its social responsibility, four seats in each session are reserved for children from underprivileged community schools at very nominal fee of Rs. 500/ only.

The essence of this summer camp was to let the young minds know how an intelligent system works. The participants practiced with Lego Mindstorm kits, programmed their bots, and came up with their own innovative ideas. Competitions towards the end of everyday made the day exciting for all.

The course content of this summer school further included learning programming using Scratch, an MIT developed modular programming environment designed to teach programming to kids. Its not just programming at modular level, we were also teaching Python programming to kids which is actual environment used to build large-scale AI systems. One day of the camp is termed ‘day with a researcher’ where participants visit various AI centric labs in SEECS/SMME and interact with professors and research students. This gives them a broad idea current state-of-the-art in AI.
