“Auj”, an all-girls team from NUST for the first time participated
and won the “Race Tech Spirit of Formula Student” award in “Formula
Student Competition” held in Silverstone UK
The NUST girls designed and manufactured the car for the competition
in a span of a couple of months. Their efforts were greatly appreciated
by the international jury.
The team comprises 10 NUSTIANS (2 from School
of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (SEECS), 5 from School
of Art, Design & Architecture (SADA) and 3 from NUST Business
School). The SEECS girls Harim Akhtar and Aatrah Rauf Sheikh from BEE-6
are the core members of the team.
The engineering competition is held in
Silverstone UK every year to encourage young students produce their own
cars using exclusive and innovative designs. NUST team won the award
due to their commitment and determination in the face of many problems;
the major being financial problem. The car chassis was completed
earlier in March but main fabrication started as late as May, 2018 and
yet, despite all odds, team was able to successfully accomplish the
project and participate in the competition in UK.
The team was also invited in London by Syed Ibne
Abbas, Pakistan High Commissioner to United Kingdom in recognition for
their achievements. Principal SEECS Dr. Hassan Zaidi visited the team
in Café Garage and Autopark Workshop to encourage and appreciate the
efforts of his students.
