Finding Innovative & Creative Solutions for Society (FICS) is NUST`s flagship program aimed at promoting Social Entrepreneurship culture at NUST where students are given an opportunity to get actively involved in social problem identification and think innovatively to devise technology-based solutions that can serve communities by applying their technical knowledge . Students submit their Ideas in different areas and domains including Healthcare, Biotechnology, Energy, Education, and so on. These projects are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals under various domain heads of FICS.
FICS was initiated as an intra-SEECS Competition about 5 years ago; and with the passage of time it expanded to include all the NUST Schools and Colleges, including constituent institutions from Rawalpindi, Risalpur and Karachi. FICS has witnessed an increasing number of project ideas coming in, year after year, which indeed is a clear testimony to the fact that FICS has invoked enthusiasm among the NUST students.
FICS’18 Stage 1 Ideas Registrations officially opened up on 25th September, 2017. The Corporate Advisory Council (CAC) along with FICS’18 Student Organizing Committee (OC) formally unveiled the FICS 2018 chapter on 21st December, 2017 with a new logo and showcase of additional features. One such initiative included Training & Organizational Development (T&OD) by the FICS’18 OC to systematically impart skill trainings to the students associated with FICS in particular and other NUST students in general. The event as a whole brought to the fore, renewed rigor and exuberance of FICS’18 in symbolism and substance.
The event was commenced in USPCASE Seminar Hall and it was graced by Mr. Hamayun Gouhar (Senior Fellow NUST Global Think Tank Network, Journalist and a Public Intellectual) as a guest of honor; Col Amjad Karim and Mrs Amjad karim (AKF Foundation); Mr. Amer Hashmi (President NUST Global Think Tank Network and Secretary General Corporate Advisory Council); Pro-Rector Irfan Akhter; Principals; Directors; Senior NUST Management; Esteemed Faculty; Industry Partners; Students; FICS’16 & FICS’17 Winning Teams & Start-ups and FICS’17 Organizing Committee Members attended the event to witness the beginning of yet another exciting year of FICS’18.
FICS enjoys tremendous support from internal and external stakeholders. The greater part of FICS success is attributed to the CAC/FICS Industry partners; it is with their cooperation, collaboration and support that FICS is today churning out deployable, practicable and value-adding products and services. Our Industry partners provide mentorship and funding to the projects and the student teams, FICS also gets their full support throughout the Program including their participation in Idea Generation Sessions, Project Evaluation at Stages 2 & 3 along with continued and never ending support for commercialization.
The launch drew to a close with a group photograph in front of the brand wall designed and prepared by the FICS’18 Student Organizing Committee.
