Inauguration of Wastewater Treatment Plant and MPH Unit

Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) is highly appreciative of NUST’s efforts of towards aligning its programs and projects with Sustainable Development Goals and Vision 2025 and finding sustainable solutions to societal problems, said Mr Zahid Hamid, Federal Minister for Science and Technology during his visit to NUST to inaugurate Wastewater Treatment Plant and Meteorological High Precision (MPH) Solar / Wind Measuring Station.

The inauguration ceremonies were attended by Secretary MoST and Addl Secretary, Ministry of Water and Power, CEO Alternative Energy Development Board, Director UNESCO Pakistan, Country Director World Bank Pakistan, Director Education Office USAID and other dignitaries from donor agencies.

Mr Zahid Hamid visited the sites and inaugurated the projects. The Wastewater Treatment plant is a low-cost technology, requiring minimal energy and operational attention. A joint project of UNESCO and NUST, it is able to produce 75,000 gallons of recycled water per day for entire horticulture of NUST.

Meteorological High Precision Solar / Wind Measuring Station, is a cutting-edge tier-2 station, the second of its kind in Pakistan.  It will provide real-time data for research and development of sustainable technologies. The station has been donated by the World Bank through the Alternative Energy Development Board.

The Minister urged the scientists to devote their energies to finding low-cost sustainable solutions for the development of Pakistan.
