After bagging many awards at international debates / MUN conferences, a team from NUST Drama and Debating Society brought home laurels from an international frontier.
A 10 minute micro drama was taken by the team to Short + Sweet Theatre Dubai 2014 – an international, Sydney-based drama festival held in Dubai. The play, ' Death takes the train', was a story about 3 friends confronting death on a train, and revolved around the wake of many realizations in their hearts and minds about life and death from this encounter. It was directed by Ms Maria Qadri and students from four different schools of NUST were chosen to perform in the festival.
The festival was a zero registration, workshop-based learning-through-performing event, where the team had a first-hand experience of learning 'performance as a medium of expression' .The workshops also covered drama-based event planning, management and front stage/ backstage execution, and thus touched upon all areas of project management for the students, which we can put to practice in our own calender events.
Some 37 teams showcased their scripts, including teams from US, Lebanon, Dubai, India and Turkey. Out of them, 11 were selected to perform in front of the Dubai theatre audience.
The team from NUST was amongst the 11 teams that got the opportunity to enthral the audience with their performance. The NUSTians were admired for their talent, confidence, teamwork, and especially communication skills, as compared to teams from Asian countries. The networking opportunities were amazing and were a chance to make friends from universities across the globe.
