NUST-MCS holds International Conference on Communication Technologies (ComTech-2019)
As part of its continuing pursuit for excellence in research, NUST Military College of Signals (MCS) has organised 2nd “International Conference on Communication Technologies (ComTech-2019)” in collaboration with IEEE and other related industrial partners. Commenced at the College here on Wednesday, the two-day conference is aimed at providing a forum for researchers, developers and practitioners both from academia and industry to meet and share knowledge and cutting-edge technologies in the fields of Telecommunication, Software Engineering & Cyber/ Information Security.

Chairman Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) Engr Jawed Salim Qureshi graced the opening ceremony as chief guest. In his address, he termed the conference a valuable opportunity to network with peers and get acquainted with the latest techniques and technological developments in the fields of Telecommunication, Software Engineering & Cyber/ Information Security. He congratulated MCS and organisers of the conference on successful arrangement of international level conference on the topics of national need.

In the opening session, the keynote speech was delivered on “Internet of Things (IoT)” by Dr Kung-Kiu Lau from the University of Manchester, UK. Whereas, Dr Hafiz Malik from University of Michigan-Dearborn, USA, would present a keynote speech on “Cyber Security” at the closing session on the second day of conference. Dr Seong Oun Hwang from Hong Kong University, Korea would give an invited talk on “Deep Learning & its Applications in Cyber Security.” In addition, presentations on topics related to communication technologies are also being delivered by some local experts, besides a series of technical presentations by researchers from academia and industry.

The technical committee of conference received 124 submissions and after review, 24 papers were accepted with the acceptance rate of 18%, which is in line with the IEEE standards. The Best Paper Award was given to the paper title, “UWB Microstrip Antenna with U-Shape Slot for WLAN Band-Suppression Application” submitted by Mr Zain-ul-Islam and co-authors. The conference would help a great deal in the formulation of new strategies for future and in developing comprehension regarding organisational governance and necessary skills for its gainful implementation.
