Peshawar July 18, 2018 – The NUST-PPL Outreach Programme 2018,
conducted in Balochistan and KPK, aims to bring students
from underprivileged areas of Pakistan into the mainstream of education. The
4-week programme, in collaboration with Pakistan Army and Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), commenced on June 22 2018, to prepare students from Balochistan and KPK
(mainly FATA) for the highly competitive NUST Entry Test (NET). More than 150
students from each of the two provinces were mentored. The closing ceremony of NUST-PPL Outreach
Programme 2018 was held in Peshawar on July 18 2018; Lt. Gen Nazir Ahmad Butt
HI(M), Commander 11 Corps, was the chief guest.
Speaking at the occasion, the chief guest highlighted the
initiatives taken by Pak Army for the development of FATA, now part of KPK,
particularly in the education sector. He said that the outreach programme would
go a long way in uplift of the region. He also announced a grant of Rs. 5
Million to support education of qualifying students at NUST, to make sure that
they do not forego quality education at NUST for want of financial resources.
He also said that next year, over 500 students from the region would be
considered for the programme.
Pro-Rector Academics NUST, Air Vice Marshal Dr Asif Raza (Retd), said that the
outreach programme has been supplemented by doubling the student enrolment from
2017 to 2018. He explained the opportunities available at Pakistan’s No. 1
Engineering & Technology university that offers quality education at
affordable cost with need-based scholarships for deserving students. He also announced that a special NUST Entry
Test would be held for the graduates of KPK outreach 2018 in Peshawar on July

PPL’s partnership with NUST for KPK and Balochistan outreach.
