NUST holds int’l workshop on The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Environment Monitoring
NUST School of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (SEECS) has organised an international workshop on "The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Environment Monitoring," held at NUST SEECS on August 21, 2019. Attended by renowned academics and researchers from China, Germany, Japan and Sweden, the workshop was held as part of 3rd IAPR Summer School on Document Analysis being conducted at SEECS from August 19 to 23, 2019.

Minister of State for Climate Change, Ms Zartaj Gul, has said that there is a dire need to construct more water reservoirs and simultaneously maintain an ecological balance through robust afforestation to avert the climatic and environmental degradation issues facing Pakistan. She also shard that population growth and increasing urbanisation situation calls for immediate steps both on short and long-term basis. The Government has been taking tangible initiatives to counteract environmental challenges, mentioning the “Clean Green Pakistan Movement” launched by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, under which several plantation drives and cleanliness campaigns are being held across the country to spread awareness about environmental conservation. The minister commended NUST for playing an instrumental role as the leading hub of research and innovation in tackling the core environmental problems through technological intervention, adding that the workshop on The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Environmental Monitoring is one such example.

Lt Gen Naweed Zaman, HI (M), (Retd), Rector NUST, expressed his appreciation to the Minister for the steps being taken by Ministry to address environmental degradation challenges with the awareness campaigns for general masses to inspire them to play their role in promoting the green culture in Pakistan. Later, the Minister also planted a tree sapling at the campus and admired NUST initiatives for the promotion of green culture.
