NUST holds walk to mark World Forestry Day

A forest conservation awareness walk was arranged by NUST Environment Club at to mark the World Forestry Day.

The day is being celebrated around the world for 30 years to remind communities of the importance of forests and the benefits which the human beings gain from them.

Pro Rector, Planning and Resource,  Engr. Muhammad Shahid was the chief guest. Officers, students and faculty members participated in the walk. The walk started from university main office and ended at NUST Business School ground, where students from NUST Environment Club displayed their posters and banners to create awareness in the masses about the need of forests that they are essential part of the life on Earth. They always fulfill the demands of the human beings by providing shadow, shelter, refreshment including clean air and water. In the modern world of growing global population increases the demands of forest products so the forests are at big risks of deforestation and degradation.

During the event celebration the tree plantation campaign is encouraged among the students through many activities. Students are the main target of this campaign to get aware about the serious imbalance of food production and population explosion day by day including the contribution of forests in their lives. They get motivated towards the plantation in the nearby areas as well as stop the deforestation.

Pro-Rector (Planning and Resource) Engr. Muhammad Shahid in his address lauded the efforts of NUST Environment club and appreciate the organizers to arrange such an effective campaign in the university. More over Pro-Rector (Planning and Resource), NUST said that we must arrange facilities, which can help us in use of rain water because if we don’t use this than scientists and environmentalists are predicting that Pakistan will become a desert as it’s a water scarce country.

The Pro-Rector requested the students to plant a tree in the university by graving their name on it, so as when they come after ten years in university it will remind them of their addition in establishment of forests.

The event concluded by distributing awards and certificates to the winners of essay writing competition on importance of trees. The winners are Ali Aitzaz (1st position), Huma Tariq (2nd position), Nouma Hanif (3rd position).
