Knights tore the superstars apart with a devastating display of attacking cricket, walking away with a comfortable 62 run victory in the ‘#playtoeducate: Cricket gala 2017’, at the SMME ground on the 16th of October. It was played between two teams from SMME, the Knights and the Superstars. In what was largely a one sided affair, Knights, captained by Mr. Moosa Khalil won the toss and elected to bat first. This decision paid off as the Knights set a mammoth total of 137 which the superstars failed to chase down, scoring only 75 in their 8 allotted overs.
Straight from the get go, Knights attacked the bowlers who were helpless in the face of the onslaught, scoring 14 in the very first over. Openers Mr. Moosa and Mr. Aqil kept the score board ticking with regular boundaries and quick running between the wickets. Superstars’ captain, Mr. Usama, finally struck in the third over, clean bowling Mr. Aqil with a fine yorker. Mr. Nafay Dar, the next man in was caught at the boundary in the 4th over off Hammad’s bowling but the umpire signalled a six, since the fielder’s foot had gone over the boundary line. This would prove to be very costly mistake as Mr. Nafay mercilessly smashed the bowlers all over the park. He made light work of the Superstars bowling line-up, hitting 4 consecutive sixes off Mr. Usman in the 5th over to bring up his half century. Mr. Nafay declared after plundering 60 runs, the highest individual score in the tournament. The next batsmen continued from where he left, scoring freely against the hapless Superstars. Mr. Moosa and Mr. Abdullah Tofique were the other notable scorers for the Knights with 17 each while Mr. Usama was the pick of the bowlers for the Stars with 2 wickets for 28 runs in his 3 overs. Mr. Uzair and Mr. Hammad chipped in with a wicket each.
In reply, the Superstars got off to a good start, scoring 14 in the first over. The Knights responded in the second over as Mr. Shahrukh dismantled the entire top order of the Superstars, claiming 3 wickets at the expense of just 5 runs. Mr. Sibtain gave the stars some hope with a couple of sixes off Mr. Aqil, but he had no support from his teammates as wickets kept falling at the other end. Mr. Usama, Mr. Hasnat and Mr. Danish all returned to the dugout without any effect on the scorecard. A late onslaught by Mr. Talal and Mr. Hammad reignited some hope for the Stars but it was too little, too late. Mr. Sibtain and Mr. Talat, with 17 and 15 respectively, were the notable run getters for the stars as the superstars ended their innings 62 runs short of the target. Mr. Moeen and Mr. Moosa were the other wicket takers for the Knights.
