Scorpions halt Knights Progress

The SMME Knights took on the Staff Scorpions in the next match of the ‘#PlayToEducate: Cricket Gala 2017’ held on the 17th of October, 2017. The match had all the ingredients to be a very interesting affair, as both the teams had scored aplenty in their previous matches. Mr. Muhammad Taj, captain of the Scorpions, won the toss and decided to have a bat first. At the end of what turned out to be a master class from their opener Mr. Abid Ali, the Scorpions finished on a massive total of 163 for the loss of just 2 wickets. The Knights had plenty of firepower in their locker, but it wasn’t enough. They were eventually bundled out for 71, handing the Scorpions the biggest margin of victory in the tournament yet.

The Scorpions had blown away the SMME Warriors in their previous match. When pitched up against another team from SMME, they knew they’d have to be at their best to earn a place in the next round. Their innings started off really well, scoring 22 off the very first over. Their opener Mr. Abid was in the form of his life. Everything he touched turned to runs. When he lost his opening partner Adnan in the third over for 11, Mr. Murtaza joined him at the crease. Both of them mercilessly smashed the bowlers to all parts of the ground. Abid declared himself after setting the record for the highest individual tournament in the tournament, scoring 67. He broke the record of Knights player Mr. Nafay Dar, who actually set it a day earlier. Mr. Murtaza also declared himself after scoring a well played 45. In the last over of the innings, the Knights got rid of Mr. Mukhtiar for a duck, the only silver lining in a pretty dark cloud. The Scorpions finished off with 163 runs, the highest team score in the tournament yet.  For the Knights, Mr. Umar Ali and Mr. Usama Arif bagged a wicket each.

The Knights came out to bat with a strong resolve to put things right. They hoped their batting would compensate for their poor fielding, which saw them drop 4 catches in the first innings. Mr. Umar Ali hit 2 fours in the very first over, but the Scorpions responded with the wicket of Mr. Usama in the same over. That brought the captain, Mr. Moosa Khalil, to the crease. Mr. Moosa and Mr. Umar stabilized the innings. Mr. Umar Ali got out for 17 on the last ball of the third over with the scorecard reading 45-2. Mr. Nafay, the man of the match from the Knights victory of the Superstars, hit a six on the first ball he faced, but was clean bowled on the very next ball. That left Mr. Moosa with the tail, still nowhere near the target. Mr. Moosa got out in the second last over after top scoring with a decent 35. At the end, the Knights were bowled out for 71, handing the Scorpions a 92 run victory and a place in the next round.
