Parliamentary Secretary Ministry of Kashmir Affairs & Gilgit-Baltistan, Ch. Hamid Hameed, member subcommittee on Higher Education, visited NUST on the directive of the Prime Minister of Pakistan to review the progress of Public Sector Development Projects (PSDP) on March 26, 2014.
The honorable guest was warmly welcomed by Acting Rector NUST, Engr Muhammad Shahid. After a brief presentation about NUST, Engr. Muhammad Ashfaq Sheikh, Dir (SP&MO) presented a brief on the progress of PSDP Projects. Ch. Hamid Hameed praised the performance of NUST and the dedication of its faculty to enhance education standards in the country. He appreciated NUST’s contribution in knowledge creation, management and implementation of the PSDP Projects. He admired that the fact that the university was well aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision and was playing a vital role in the implementation of the same. He further advised NUST to launch research in the Agriculture Sector with a focus on latest Agriculture Technology development. He suggested that NUST should devise a strategy to attract more foreign students, especially from Arab countries.
Later, Mr Hameed visited School of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (SEECS), Research Centre for Modeling & Simulation (RCMS) and School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (SMME) where he was given a demonstration of a number of research projects. He showed keen interest in the following projects and advised to prepare proposals for the commercialization of these projects:
Tele-Health Care Solution for Remote Areas.
Punjab E-Prescription Network.
Tele-Surgical Training Robot & Simulator.
Mobile Applications for Agriculture in Pakistan.
Development of Percutaneous Trans luminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA) Balloon Catheters.
He praised the research work and encouraged the students and faculty to continue their contribution towards the development of Pakistan.
