Veteran diplomat and recently appointed Permanent Ambassador of Pakistan to the United Nations, His Excellency Mr Munir Akram, called on Rector NUST, Lt Gen Naweed Zaman, HI(M), (Retd), at the latter’s office at NUST’s main campus in Islamabad on October 29, 2019. His Excellency has held the same post from 2002 to 2008, during which he also served 2 terms as President of the UN Security Council.
The Rector apprised the distinguished guest of some of the meritorious achievements of NUST in its brief history of 28 years. The Ambassador lauded NUST for its quick and exponential growth, and its contribution to Pakistan's knowledge economy. The Rector congratulated HE Mr Akram on assuming his new role. Recounting his past services, particularly his previous stint as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN, the Rector wished him success in his new assignment. He expressed the hope that with HE Mr Akram’s presence at the UN, Pakistan would vociferously present its stance on various international matters, particularly the Kashmir issue.
