January 25, 2017: The School of Chemical and Materials Engineering (SCME) family established an endowment fund in the loving memory of Zaim Khan. This initiative, which has been supported by the faculty, alumni and the students of the school is indeed a step forward to make NUST a needs-blind institution.
The signing ceremony for the Zaim Khan Scholarship Endowment Fund was chaired by Pro-Rector Finance and Investments and attended by Principal SCME, Engr Nadeem Ahsan who is also the father of Zaim Khan, Osama Hasan; an SCME Alumnus of the first batch, and Hassan Nadeem as the representative for the SCME student body. Other participants included Registrar NUST, Secretary NUST Trust Fund (NTF), Head of the University Advancement Office (UAO), Director Post Graduate Programs, AD Scholarships, alongside the UAO and NTF teams.
Ms. Maria Qadri, Head of UAO acted as the moderator of the session, and introduced the participants to the fundraising and endowment building functions of NUST. She also highlighted the efforts of the SCME family in the establishment of the Zaim Khan Scholarship Fund and shared the everlasting impact the fund is going to have on the lives of the students with financially challenged backgrounds. The session ended with Pro Rector Finance and Investments addressing the concept of endowments, and their role in the development of education. He appreciated the efforts of the SCME students, alumni and the faculty in taking the initiative of establishing the fund in the memory of Zaim Khan, and concluded the session with the presentation of souvenirs to Principal SCME, Engr. Nadeem Ahsan, and Mr. Osama Hassan for gracing the event on behalf of the SCME family.
