Local QECs

​ Local Quality Enhancement Cells at NUST Institutions 

NUST has a unique structure of having twenty-two teaching institutions as colleges, schools, institutes and centers. These institutions are independent in their working but under academic control of the NUST. In order to effectively implement the QA policies and programs with uniform pace and standard across the university, a Local Quality Enhancement Cells (LQEC) has been established at each constituent institution which functions in collaboration with QAD. Engr Hasan Tarar is a postgraduate of Air University, Islamabad in the discipline of Aerospace Engineering. He started his professional career as an Engineering Officer in Pakistan Air Force and served for four years. After graduate studies, he was posted to College of Aeronautical Engineering (NUST); he served as an Instructor at Department of Aerospace for about three years. Throughout his stay, he remained actively involved in Research and Teaching assignments. Since March, 2018, he is performing duties as Director LQEC, CAE NUST.

​ Dr A.Q.Malik did his PhD in Physical Chemistry in 1986 from the University of ESSEX (England), the UK. He has about fifty years experimental/R & D experience in Defence Science & Technology Organization (DESTO) including over ten years academic experience in SCME (NUST). During his stay in DESTO & SCME (NUST) he also gained experienced in Quality Assurance (QA). In recognition of his meritorious services, he was awarded President's award for Pride of Performance in the field of Explosives Engineering in 2001. Besides, his name has been included in “Galaxies of who's who in Pakistan 2007" designated as “Star Laureate 2007" by South Asia publications. He is presently working as senior faculty member in the School of Chemical & Materials Engineering (SCME) since January 2006".

​Dr. Ammar Mushtaq completed his BS in Computational Physics from University of the Punjab, Lahore in 2008 and his Masters in Computational Science and Engineering from National University of Sciences and Technology, Islamabad in 2010. Currently he is working as Lecturer in RCMS NUST since 2012 and has been looking after LQEC of RCMS since January 2013. His research interests include both active and passive techniques for separation control in compressors and turbines. He was also actively involved in HEC projects “External Flow Analysis of Trucks being used in Pakistan for Drag Reduction with the Aim of Achieving Substantial Fuel Savings” and “Aerodynamic Design and Optimization of an Energy Efficient Ceiling Fan”.

​Dr. Muhammad Irfan was commissioned in Pak Army Corps of Engineers in 1994. He is a graduate (with honours) from Military College of Engineering Risalpur. He holds MS Civil Engineering and a Ph.D. degree from Purdue University, USA. Dr. Irfan has also qualified Applied Management Principles Program (Mini-MBA) from Krannert School of Management, USA. He has served as the Head of Transportation Engineering Department at National Institute of Transportation (NIT), NUST for four years (2010-2014). Dr. Irfan has more than 20 years of work experience in various disciplines of Civil Engineering with emphasis on highway infrastructure engineering and management systems, and transportation systems evaluation/ decision-making. He has presented his research work at a significant number of international conferences and authored several peer-reviewed archival journal (ISI indexed Impact factor) publications. He has supervised over 20 MS thesis research studies and has over 40 publications to his credit. He is recipient of numerous prestigious awards including Best Dissertation Award and Outstanding Research Award at Purdue University, USA, International Road Federation Award, USA and Best University Teacher Award by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Dr. Irfan is also Consultant with NHA and FWO on various National level projects. Currently, he is Head of Department (HoD) (Construction Engineering and Management), Deputy Controller of Examination (DCE) and Director Local Quality Enhancement Cell (DLEQC) at Military College of Engineering (MCE), Risalpur Campus of National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST).​

Dr Muhammad Abbas is BE in Electrical Engineering from NED University Karachi. He has done M.S. and PhD in Information System Engineering from the University of Manchester, UK. He is currently working at NUST College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering as a Professor at the Department of Computer Engineering. He has significant industrial experience as a maintenance engineer. He has multiple highly cited publications in international journals and conferences.  His research interests include application of software engineering, software quality engineering, software project management and ERP systems.  He is performing duties as Director LQEC, for College of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering (CE&ME), NUST.

Dr Syed Sajjad H. Zaidi received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical engineering from the National University of Sciences and Technology, Islamabad, Pakistan, in 1998 and 2006, respectively, and the Doctorate in Electrical from Michigan State University, East Lansing, in 2010. He enjoys professional experience spread over more 20 years. He has served onboard many ships and destroyers. He also served in the Marine System Limited for applied research projects. He was appointed in the Department of Electronics and Power Engineering, Pakistan Navy Engineering College, Karachi. He has established Power Research Laboratory (PRL) at PNEC with prime aim to undertake projects related to Power and related systems. He is presently working on funded projects from Higher Education Commission, US Aid, National Engineering and Scientific Commission, and local industry. Among his diversified research interests are power systems, acoustic intelligence, time–frequency distribution, pattern recognition, fault prognosis. Presently, he is performing duties of Director Quality Assurance. He is actively involved in the education management activities being undertaken by PEC to introduce Outcome based education. He is member of the National task force for OBE implementation. He is also performing duties of the Advisor to Commandant for Implementation of OBE in NUST – PNEC.

​Dr Saeed Murtaza did her Ph.D (1992) in Physics with specialization in Mathematical Modelling and Computer Simulations from the School Physics and Space Research. The University of Birmingham, UK. After doing his PhD, Dr Saeed Murtaza joined a very prestigious Govt. Organization and was actively involved in research of very sensitive nature for six years. He joined NUST in 1998 as Asstt Prof. He was promoted to assoc Prof in 2000. He teaches many different mathematics course at UG and PG level. He has supervised many UG and PG final semesters / degree projects. He is also a member of Guidance and Evaluation Committee (GEC) of many PhD students. His area of interest is mathematical modeling and simulation of physical processes.

Dr. Muhammad Zeeshan Ali Khan is working as Assistant Professor at Institute of Environmental Science and Engineering- National University of Science and Technology (IESE- NUST) Islamabad, Pakistan. He is a PhD and MS from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand.  Dr. Zeeshan has specialization in field of Satellite Remote Sensing of Particulate Matter, Air Pollution and Petroleum and Refinery Processes.  He is performing duties as Director LQEC, for  IESE- NUST.​

Dr. Ali Tahir received his BSc (Hons) degree in Computing and Information Systems in 2004 from Oxford Brookes University and subsequently a Master’s degree in Geographical Information Science (GIS) from University of Nottingham in 2006. He completed his PhD in Geoinformatics from the School of Computer Science and Informatics at University College Dublin, Ireland. Recently, he has completed his post-doctorate at the Geo-Environmental Research Centre, School of Engineering, Cardiff University.

Dr. Abdur Rehman Nasir is a civil engineer with 08 years of experience of working in the construction industry and research.  Dr. Nasir has got the 04 years exposure of working with the major construction stakeholders i.e. Client, Consultant and the Construction Contractor. Mr. Nasir has taken part in various local and international research studies during his Masters and Ph.D. studies pertaining to Building Information Modeling, Construction law, Cost and Time Overruns in Construction Industry, Construction Labor social position, Machine and Labor Productivity, Construction Instructional Design and Virtual Reality in Construction.

​Dr. Rao Arsalan Khushnood received his doctorate degree in the field of Civil (Structural) Engineering from Politecnico di Torino, Italy in 2015. He was also awarded with Canadian government scholarship during his PhD to propose guidelines for the rehabilitation of concrete pavement under extreme weather condition in Winnipeg, Canada. He is a member of Pakistan Engineering Council, Institute of Civil Engineers UK, American Society of Civil Engineers, and American Concrete Institute. His doctorate research mainly focuses on nano-modificent strategies in high performance self-compacting cementitious systems for the possible improvements in the mechanical behavior, refinement of microstructure and the enhanced shielding effectiveness against electromagnetic interference (EMI). He has presented his research work at a significant number of international conferences and authored several peer-reviewed archival journal (ISI indexed Impact factor) publications. He is currently supervising several MS-Research students in the area of self-healing and nano-modified cementitious matrices.​​

​Dr. Zaib Ali holds PhD degree in Engineering from University of Cambridge, UK. He is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from College of EME, NUST and completed his Masters in Computational Mechanics from University of Wales, Swansea, UK in 2009. He research interests include Computational Fluid Dynamics, grid generation for Computational Mechanics, Computational Aeroacoustics and Engineering Optimization. He has authored and collaborated on several journal and conference articles. He is recipient of MSc Erasmus Mundus Scholarship, Cambridge Trusts PhD Scholarship, and Rolls-Royce Research grant. Currently, he is member of Computational Mechanics Research Group at the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.

​Engr. Taufique-ur-Rehman is a graduate of College of Aeronautical Engineering and earned his bachelor’s degree from NED University of Engg and Technology Karachi in Avionics Engineering.  He did his MS in Software Engineering from NUST, Pakistan in 2004 with the President’s Gold Medal for attaining first position with a cumulative GPA of 3.92 on a scale of 4.0.  Through an extended career of more than three decades, he carries a highly diversified experience of serving on a wide variety of assignments.  From being Officer-in-charge of the entire Telecommunications Network of Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, Kamra to Director Networks at Air Headquarters Islamabad, he has an extensive experience and significant contributions in the field of ICT, along with teaching at CAE, RCMS and currently in Dept. of Computing at SEECS since September, 2015.  In addition to teaching, he is also assigned the additional responsibilities of LQEC, Faculty Sponsor NUST Entrepreneurs Club and also overseeing SEECS Student Affairs and Industrial Liaison Offices.  During his previous service, he also been duly acknowledged through various awards conferred upon him at different occasions of his career including, TI (M), awarded on 23 March, 2004 and Professional Excellence Badge (PEB), awarded on 28 July, 1997.

Dr. Ayesha is a Ph.D Entrepreneurship of Essex Business School, University of Essex, UK and M.Sc Economics, University of Peshawar. She is specialized in Gender and Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurial learning and dynamic capabilities, creative industries. She has over 13 years of experience as an academician. She joined NUST business school in July 2018. Prior to that she was attached to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar as Assistant Professor. Dr. Ayesha also has teaching experience at Essex Business School and worked as research assistant at International Centre for Entrepreneurship Research (ICER), The Venture Academy at Essex Business School.  Currently she is performing duties as DLQEC at NUST Business School (NBS).

​Dr. Henna Qureshi is working in National University of Science and Technology (NUST) since Jan, 2019. She holds a PhD in Communication in Mentoring from Friedrich Schiller University, Germany, where she has specialized in mentoring relationships as a trainer for mentors and mentees. Dr. Qureshi is a Fulbright & FDPA-NUST Alumni as well as Pro-chance funding awardee. She has been trained as a teacher trainer with focus on TESOL as part of MS Education degree at University of Pennsylvania, USA. She has also earned MA English Literature and Language degree from Quaid-e-Azam University. Dr. Henna Qureshi has taught in Germany (school & university), USA (school & Industry) & Pakistan (school & university). She is an avid believer of mentoring at all levels for achieving higher standards. Her research interests include TESOL, SLT, Mentoring, & Grounded Theory. Currently she is performing duties as Asst. Muhammad Faraz Bhatti is serving as an Assistant Professor at Atta-ur-Rahman School of Applied Biosciences (ASAB), National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) since, January 2012. He received his M.Sc (Hons) degree in Plant Breeding and Genetics from University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) in 2007. Later, in the same year he was awarded a prestigious overseas scholarship by Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan to commence his PhD studies at one of the finest and top ranked institute of the world, Imperial College London (UK). During his stay at Imperial College, he investigated the role of double-stranded RNA mycoviruses and their effects on human opportunistic pathogen, Aspergillus fumigatus. In October 2011, he acquired his PhD degree from Imperial College London in the field of Molecular Biology and is now back in NUST to serve the nation.​

​Dr. Muhammad Ishaq and working as Assistant Professor at School of Natural Sciences (SNS), National University of Science and Technology Islamabad, with effect from 7th May, 2012. I completed my Ph.D in February 2012 from Abdus Salam School of Mathematical Sciences GC University Lahore. My area of research is Commutative Algebra. In this area, I have five research papers which are published or have been accepted for publications in ISI journals. I participated and gave talks in algebra conferences organized by ASSMS. I visited Institute of Mathematics “Simion Stoilow” of the Romanian Academy on their invitation for scientific collaboration. During my stay in Romania I completed two research papers.

Architect Abaid ur Rehman has completed his Master’s degree in Technical Architecture from Sheffield Hallam University, United Kingdom.  He has earned his Bachelor Degree from National College of Arts, Lahore in Architecture Design.  He started his career as an Architect in Lahore and then moved to Qatar where he worked under a multinational Construction and Architectural Firm (Redco) as a BIM Coordinator in design department. The job was to produce revised Architectural Design, models according to current site situation and availability of specified item. 
Currently he is working as an Assistant Professor and instructs 4th year students of Architectural Design, and also Teaching ‘Parametric Design’ in Revit software. The main focused is to understand the complexity of modeling the project and its technicalities under one platform by using an advance computer aided softwares.  He is performing duties as Director LQEC, for  SADA- NUST.

Dr Sajid joined USPCASE, NUST in September 2016. His research interests include energy efficiency, green buildings, industrial energy management, sustainability, renewable energy resources and fossil fuels. He is involved in teaching variety of courses in the field of energy.  He holds PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering awarded by KAUST, KSA in 2015. He obtained his MS Mechanical Engineering from UET Taxila in 2006 and BSc (Hons) Mechanical Engineering from UET Lahore in 2004. He has earned professional certifications of Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) from Association of Energy Engineers, USA. He is also certified professional in ‘Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE)’ by International Finance Corporation (IFC), World Bank Group.  Prior to joining NUST, he has been working as Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at GIK Institute. Moreover, he has four years of professional work experience.​​

 Dr. Ahmed Waqas Waheed took graduate training at the University of Sussex, UK and completed his Ph.D. from Queen Mary, University of London, UK. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Centre of  International Peace and Stability, NUST. He has previously taught at such reputable institutions as Forman Christian College Lahore and Bahria University Islamabad.​

Dr. Farooq A. Tahir received his Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, in 2005, MS degree in Radio Frequency Telecommunications and Microelectronics from University of Nice, France in 2008. He accomplished his PhD from National Research Center, University of Toulouse, France in 2011 under French government scholarship. During PhD, his research was focused on Electromagnetic Modeling of Reconfigurable Reflect arrays for LEO satellites. Dr Tahir has also been involved in the research project entitled "R3MEMS" funded by Thales Alenia Space. Under this project, he worked towards the development of “RF MEMS-Based Micros-trip Phase Shifter". Dr Tahir is senior member of IEEE. He is currently serving as Associate Professor and DLQEC at National University of Sciences and Technology, Islamabad, Pakistan.
