NUST Hosts 1st International Conference on Climate Change & Sustainable Development
The School of Interdisciplinary Engineering and Sciences (SINES) at NUST successfully organized the 1st International Conference on Climate Change and Sustainable Development (ICCCSD) on February 25-26, 2025. The event convened global experts, policymakers and researchers to discuss climate challenges and sustainable solutions.
The opening ceremony commenced with remarks of Dr Syed Irtiza Ali Shah, Principal & Dean at SINES and Patron-in-Chief of the conference, followed by Prof Dr Fouzia Malik, the Convener of the ICCCSD. The ceremony was honoured by the presence of Dr Rizwan Riaz, Pro-Rector RIC at NUST, who delivered the keynote address as the chief guest.
The conference featured eight plenary sessions covering climate mitigation, disaster resilience, sustainable technologies and policy frameworks, with insights from renowned scholars.
A panel on climate finance, moderated by Ms Samitta Faique, explored strategies for sustainable development, while DSG led discussions on solar geoengineering in the Global South. Parallel sessions showcased 111 oral and poster presentations on advanced climate research.
The event concluded with remarks by Ms Aisha Humera, Secretary, Ministry of Climate Change, who commended the organizers for fostering actionable climate solutions. The conference reinforced the urgency of climate action, driving collaboration among experts to shape sustainable policies and practices.
