NUST signs Memorandum of Agreement with Plus W, Inc.



NUST and Plus W, Inc. signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for setting up the Japan Centre at the National Science & Technology Park (NSTP).
Pro-Rector (RIC) Dr Rizwan Riaz and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Plus W Ms Wakako Sakurai signed the MoA during a ceremony held on March 16, 2022, at NUST.
Rector NUST Lt Gen (Retd) Javed Mahmood Bukhari and the Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan H.E. Mitsuhiro Wada graced the event with their presence while Ambassador of Pakistan to Japan H.E. Mr Imtiaz Ahmad joined virtually from Tokyo, Japan. Secretary Mr Tadayoshi Hiraki, first secretary Mr Taiji Tsuchiya and Economic advisor Ms Sania Jehanzeb from Japanese embassy were also present at the event.
Officials from Plus W, Inc. including Chief operating officer (COO) Mr Takashi Horiuchi, Chief consultant Mr Umair Munir, HR manager Ms Mao Morimoto, Director global business department Mr Harumi Suzuki and Mr Akane Ono joined virtually from Tokyo, Japan.
Ms Arooba Gillani (General Manager NUST Placement Office) commenced the ceremony by giving opening remarks following which Mr Kango Hayashi gave a brief presentation about the structure, hierarchy and vision of the Japan centre. Ms Arooba Gillani has been designated “Vice Head” of the Japan centre which will be headed by Mr Kango Hayashi. H.E. Mitsuhiro Wada and H.E. Imtiaz Ahmad congratulated NUST and Plus W for coming together and taking this initiative.
The parties agreed that the proposed Japan centre will facilitate in creating and enhancing knowledge about Japan and Japanese culture in Pakistan. Moreover, both parties agreed to offer jobs for NUST graduates, especially in the IT sector, as and when relevant vacancies are created in the partner organisations, and NUST to facilitate the partner organisations in all recruitment related activities for NUST students and graduates. The parties also agreed to collaborate on joint research projects for the benefit of NUST faculty and students.
Addressing the audience at the event, Pro-Rector Research Innovations & Commercialisation (RIC) Dr Rizwan Riaz congratulated both the parties on the signing of this agreement and assured the attendees that NUST will offer the best facilities for the establishment of this centre and he expressed hope that this centre will result in good relations not only between NUST and Plus W but also between the two nations.
CEO Plus W Ms Wakako Sakurai expressed hope that the Japan centre will facilitate Plus W in acquiring the best IT resources from NUST. She thanked the officials of the Japanese Embassy and NUST for formalising this initiative.
Rector NUST Lt Gen (Retd) Javed Mahmood Bukhari, while giving concluding remarks, thanked both the Ambassadors and the ex-Japanese Ambassador H.E. Mr Kuninori Matsuda for their role in the establishment of the Japan centre and expressed hope that it will be a stepping stone for other initiatives between NUST and Plus W and also between Pakistan and Japan.
