Formula Electric Racing NUST (FERN) honoured by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)



In recognition of its six years of tremendous achievements in the international arena, Formula Electric Racing NUST (FERN), a project by Pakistan Navy Engineering College (PNEC) NUST,was honoured by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) match between Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans on February 26, 2021, as part of HBL PSL Hamaray Heroes campaign that recognises Pakistanis for their achievements in education, art, culture, music, social work, social entrepreneurship, sports, technology and health.
The team lead of FERN, Osama Muhammad Khan, was invited by PCB for an interview held during the match. Osama was interviewed live by renowned sports anchor Zainab Abbas. He was also presented with ‘HBL PSL Hamaray Heroes’ cash award of PKR 240,000 at the post-match award distribution ceremony, in appreciation for the team’s achievements and vision.
FERN, formed in 2014, has participated in the Solar Car Challenge held in Cyprus where it has won the Best Electric Propulsion Systems Award. The team has also participated in the Formula SAE Electric US in 2016, as the first Pakistani Formula Student team to raise the green flag on American soil. In 2018, the team participated in the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Formula Student UK held at Silverstone, Northamptonshire 2018 as the only electric vehicle from Pakistan. Currently, the team is registered for the IMechE Formula Student UK 2021 event, which is confirmed to be held live at the Silverstone Circuit.
