SEECS student wins Master Youth Inventor Program by CureMD
We are pleased to announce another achievement by one of NUST’s brilliant students.
Ms Alina Irfan of BS Electrical Engineering Batch of 2018 at NUST School of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (SEECS), has secured 1st position at the Master Youth Inventor Program by CureMD.
The CureMD YIP program sponsors final year projects of university students of engineering. Alina’s winning project proposes a thought-to-text translation device based on electroencephalogram (EEG) data. It is a novel deep-learning framework, in combination with a brain-computer interface (BCI) system, that will provide rehabilitative and assistive solutions for those faced with a physical disability.
For this year’s programme, 800 applicants had applied from universities across Pakistan. Through multiple stages of rigorous evaluation that tested both academic proficiency and creative innovation, seven applicants made it to the Grande Finale comprising extempore debates, situation-based critical thinking and defense of the viability and pertinence of the proposed design of their Final year Project.
Ms Alina Irfan has been awarded sponsorship for her final year project, a tuition fee waiver and a paid internship.
It is pertinent to mention here that out of the seven finalists for the programme, the top three were from NUST. The other two contenders were Ms Ayman Tanveer and Mr Shahzeb Naeem from SEECS.
