NUST Convocation Week begins

The second convocation week of the National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) commenced at the university’s main campus in Islamabad on Monday. On the inaugural day, medals were conferred upon distinction holders in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. All Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD students are to receive degrees during the convocation week which will last till December 9, 2022. Degrees are being awarded to over 3400 graduates from all NUST Schools at the main campus in the 7 core disciplines, including Engineering, Information Technology, Applied Biosciences, Management Sciences, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences & Humanities, and Art, Design & Architecture.

In his convocation address, the chief guest Lt Gen (Retd) Engr Javed Mahmood Bukhari, Rector NUST, extended his heartiest felicitations to graduates, particularly distinction holders, for having successfully passed through one of the most rigorous and comprehensive knowledge ecosystems. Congratulating the parents, he said that their efforts and sacrifices could never be justifiably reciprocated by their children. The Rector also paid glowing tribute to the faculty for their dedication and for playing an immeasurable role in the all-around grooming of the graduates.

While addressing the graduates, the Rector said that life is a struggle, and in a struggle, the consistency of hard work holds the key to long-term success. He said that today they have entered a decisively different phase of their lives since they have been the major recipients of all good things in life till now, whether it was the love and support of their parents or the guidance and grooming of their teachers. However, he said, today this equation changes in a fundamental way – one that would entail greater responsibility, which must be reflected in their attitude, actions, and the choices they would make in their lives ahead. He maintained that it is now incumbent upon them to make correct assessments of the challenges facing Pakistan, and utilise their resourcefulness of mind and spirit towards finding their solutions.
