Prof Dr Haider Abbas to lead Pakistan’s National Cybersecurity



NUST is delighted to share with you all the news of our very own Prof Dr Haider Abbas, who has been appointed by the Prime Minister of Pakistan as the Project Director (PPS-12) for Cybersecurity for Digital Pakistan. Dr Abbas will lead this newly established initiative, which will oversee the cybersecurity landscape in Pakistan.
Dr Abbas, renowned for his extensive experience collaborating with academia and industry, is widely regarded as an esteemed authority in the field of Cyber Security. He obtained his MS and Ph.D. degrees from KTH-Sweden and pursued professional trainings and certifications from renowned institutions such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), United States, Stockholm University, and Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship, Sweden, and IBM, USA. He is duly recognized as a Certified Ethical Hacker by the EC Council. Additionally, Dr Abbas holds the distinction of being the founder and director of the National Cyber Security Auditing and Evaluation Lab (NCSAEL) at NUST. His remarkable contributions have earned him numerous accolades at the national and international level, including the NUST University Best Researcher Award, Research Productivity Award from Pakistan Council for Science and Technology, MCS-NUST Best Researcher Award, Asia-Pacific ICT Alliance Awards, P@SHA ICT Awards, as well as multiple best paper awards from prestigious entities like Elsevier and IEEE. Furthermore, Dr Abbas’ international professional excellence has led to his recognition as one of the youngest Fellows of The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), UK, a Fellow of The British Computer Society (BCS), UK, and a Fellow of The Institute of Science and Technology, UK. He has also been designated as an ACM Distinguished Speaker by the ACM, USA.
