Alumnus Professor Nawaz appointed as Pro Vice-Chancellor for Digital Transformation at Staffordshire University, UK
NUST’s continued pride, Professor Raheel Nawaz, is an alumnus of Bachelors of Electrical (Telecom) Engineering (1999) and MS in the same discipline (2001) from NUST Military College of Signals. He is a strong advocate for NUST at international forums, a highly valued member of NUST’s Research & Innovation Steering Committee as well as the Director of NUST Trust Foundation United Kingdom.
Professor Nawaz will be formally appointed as post of Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Digital Transformation at Staffordshire University on July 1, 2022. In his new role, Professor Nawaz will provide strategic leadership and management of the University’s continuing digital transformation agenda, together with the leadership of Digital and Technical Services to deliver digitally enabled, streamlined ways of working, leading to an enhanced academic experience and financial efficiency.
In addition to his new appointment, Professor Nawaz holds the two roles of Director of Business Transformations Research Centre and Digital Technology Solutions at Manchester Metropolitan University. The former is one of Man Met’s largest research centres, comprising over 200 research staff and PhD students while the latter is an award-winning cross-faculty Digital Degree Apprenticeships portfolio comprising academic and specialist support colleagues delivering UG/PG programmes to nearly 900 apprentices from 70-plus leading technology employers. Professor Nawaz is also the founding Head of the Apprenticeships Research Unit and the Text and Data Mining lab at the same university.
With a PhD in Text Mining from The University of Manchester, UK, Professor Nawaz is an eminent expert in AI Applications. He holds several international academic positions in Europe, North America, the Middle East and South Asia, including adjunct professorships in seven universities and scientific/technical directorships in five research organisations. He is a board member of Pakistan’s National Center of Artificial Intelligence – NCAI and has advised national policy organisations including the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Science and Technology. He is also the recipient of the Principal Fellowship of Higher Education Academy (PFHEA), which is the highest recognition of pedagogical credentials in the international Higher Education sector.
