Prof Dr Muhammad Usman Akram, Head of the Department of Computer and Software Engineering at NUST College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, has been awarded the HEC Best Researcher Award 2024 in the category of Physical Sciences, Engineering, Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, and Mathematics.

This esteemed accolade was presented to him at the 10th HEC Best Research Award Ceremony, held on May 22, 2025.

Dr Momina Moetesum, Head of the Software Engineering Department at SEECS-NUST, has been appointed as the Vice Chair of the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR TC10). She is the first Muslim and Pakistani female to hold this prestigious position, marking a significant milestone for Pakistan in the fields of pattern recognition, computer vision, and image processing.

NUST takes immense pride in celebrating the remarkable achievement of Rehan Hameed (DE-17 EE, College of EME) on the acquisition of Kinara, Inc. by NXP Semiconductors.

Founded in 2014, Kinara is built on pioneering PhD research at Stanford University by Rehan and his co-founder Wajahat, leading to the development of a novel processor architecture that blends the flexibility of general-purpose processors with the efficiency of custom hardware. Their groundbreaking work has been recognized with multiple ACM Distinguished Research honors.

Today, Kinara stands at the forefront of AI inference chips for the edge, with a seamless ML compiler stack and two production chips deployed with tier-1 customers in Smart Retail and AI PCs. The company is enabling vision-based AI and generative AI at the edge, shaping the future of Edge AI.

Muhammad Ahmad, Founder and CEO of InLights, has been selected for the Prime Minister’s National Youth Council (PMNYC). A proud NUST alumnus and FICS 2022 graduate, he is now contributing to national youth policies as an advisor to the Prime Minister’s Office.
