NUST proudly hosted the Unveiling Ceremony of the China–Pakistan Belt and Road Joint Laboratory on Smart Disaster Prevention of Major Infrastructures, marking a defining milestone in international scientific cooperation.
Led by NUST as the Executive Body for Pakistan and Southeast University (SEU), Nanjing, China, under the supervision of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), Pakistan, this pioneering initiative underscores NUST’s continued leadership in advancing research and innovation for national development.
The high-profile ceremony, held at the NICE Structures Lab, brought together distinguished officials and scholars from MoST, NDMA and SEU, alongside NUST faculty and researchers. Keynote speakers, Dr Muhammad Usman and Prof Zhong-Fan Chen, shared insights on the significance of scientific collaboration in addressing global challenges.
Addressing the audience, Additional Secretary MoST, Mr Rizwan Sheikh, emphasized the power of research-driven development, while Dr Osman Hasan, Pro-Rector (Academics), highlighted the pivotal role of knowledge sharing in driving scientific excellence.
The Joint Laboratory will serve as a hub for joint research, academic exchange and innovation in disaster risk reduction and resilient infrastructure systems furthering NUST’s mission to foster global partnerships and contribute to a safer, more resilient future.
Ali Raza, BS Chemistry, SNS, has successfully completed a prestigious Globalink Research Internship 2025 at the University du Québec à Chicoutimi, Canada.
His achievement reflects NUST’s continued emphasis on research excellence and global learning opportunities.

Team Vitesse from SMME, NUST, has once again brought pride to the university at the TeknoFest International UAV Competition 2025.
In 2024, they made history as the first-ever NUST team, and the only team from Pakistan, to reach the finals in Kahramanmaraş, Türkiye, advancing from 682 international teams to fewer than 40. Building on this success, the team carried NUST’s winning legacy forward in 2025 by reaching the finals in Kocaeli, Türkiye, standing out from 1,037 applicants to secure a place among the top 72.
These consecutive milestones reflect the innovation, technical expertise and global competitiveness nurtured at NUST, as we push the boundaries of UAV technology and raise Pakistan’s flag high on one of the world’s largest aerospace platforms.
Team Peregrine Squadrons from the Aerospace Department, SMME, NUST proudly represented the university at TeknoFest 2025 International UAV Competition in Kocaeli, Türkiye.
The team, led by Ikhlas Jamshaid, stood out among 1,037 international applicants, securing 5th place in the Virtual Stage and finishing in the Top 10 among 72 global finalists. Their innovative UAV design and strong flight performance highlighted the skills and creativity being developed at NUST on a global stage.

Ms Maria Ahmed, PhD Physics scholar at SNS-NUST, has secured a 3-month Summer School Research Program fellowship at Sichuan University, China. Under the supervision of Prof Syed Rizwan Hussain (HoD Physics & Astronomy), she is advancing research on two-dimensional materials for energy storage, strengthening NUST’s global research footprint.
Proud Moment for NUST!
Zainab Ali, a final-year BS Public Administration student at the Department of Government & Public Policy (BPA-2k22), has been selected as the only Pakistani participant for the prestigious Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (China–UK).
She was awarded a fully funded fellowship and spent three months conducting research. Her poster has also been selected for display at the SURF Poster Competition in October 2025.
