NUST RANKINGS

A university’s ranking synchronically mirrors its progress vis-à-vis various Key Performance Indicators, such as Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Faculty-Student Ratio, Citations per Faculty, International Faculty & Students, etc. NUST’s growth trajectory over the past 5 years epitomises a progressive vision and a journey of excellence in higher education, research, innovation and numerous other initiatives within the mandate of a higher education institution. Today, NUST brushes shoulders with the most prestigious universities in the world, some of which are hundreds of years old.

Quacquarelli Symonds Ranking

National University of Sciences & Technology, Pakistan has earned yet another crowning achievement by ascending an astounding 24 positions to stand 367th amongst higher education institutions worldwide. NUST has accomplished this feat as per the World University Rankings 2024 announced on June 8 by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) – a prestigious UK-based ranking agency. As many as 2462 universities from around the globe were considered for ranking this year, out of which 1422 were ranked as compared to the last year, wherein 1300 made it to the ranking table. Despite a significant increase in the number of participating universities in the new rankings, NUST has managed to stride into top 24% global higher education institutions. Meanwhile, NUST has also maintained #1 position in Pakistan for the third consecutive year. A total of 13 universities from Pakistan are ranked in the latest edition of QS rankings. In addition, NUST has retained the honour of being #1 in Pakistan both in the World and Asian Rankings, and the only Pakistani university in the top 340 global and 100 Asian universities. QS university rankings are centered around a few Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Citation per Faculty, Faculty-Student Ratio, and International Faculty / Students. In the KPIs of Employer Reputation and Faculty-Student ratio, NUST is now proudly positioned at #104 and #154, respectively.

NUST has ascended 19 positions in Engineering & Technology to stand at #160 globally, and retained #1 position in Pakistan for the 7th consecutive year as per QS World University Ranking by Subject 2023.

Overall, NUST has stood first in Pakistan across 6 subject areas, including Electrical & Electronics Engineering; Computer Science; Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering; Chemical Engineering; Civil & Structural Engineering; and Material Science.

TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION IMPACT RANKING 2023

Another prestigious higher education ranking agency, is Times Higher Education (THE). THE has been ranking universities and providing data and insights into the universities for almost five decades and is considered to be another credible source for insights into the higher education institutions of the world.

Guided by its vision aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) has unlatched yet another milestone achievement by standing amongst Top 300 world universities as per Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2023. According to details, the university now stands among top 101-200 universities in  SDG 7 (Affordable & Clean Energy) and SDG 12 ( Responsible Consumption & Production), and among top 201-300 universities in SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure).

The Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking is the only global ranking that assesses universities’ impact on society in line with the SDGs. NUST is one of the pioneering universities in Pakistan to have aligned its research & development with the SDGs. In 2019, the university participated for the first time in THE Impact Rankings, and was ranked in 4 SDGs. In the following year, NUST took a giant leap forward by surfacing among all 17 SDGs in THE Impact Rankings 2020, featuring among world top 100, top 200 and top 300 universities in different SDG categories.

One of the thriving impetuses that have led the university to achieve this honour is its strict adherence to quality standards. It is also noteworthy that all of the university’s Engineering programmes are accredited under the Washington Accord.  

The QS and THE rankings bear testimony to NUST’s commitment to quality higher education, impactful research, disruptive innovation, and sustainable development. Over the years, NUST has stayed its course and continued its journey down the road to excellence.
