Dr Shams Qazi is a technology professional, academic, and researcher with more than 20 years of experience in Information and Communication Technology, cybersecurity, software development, teaching, research, and technology management in Pakistan and Australia. He holds a PhD and MS in Network Security from the University of Wollongong, Australia.

His association with NUST dates back to 2001, when he started his professional career with the University as an intern in the ICT Directorate. He subsequently served NUST in various capacities before moving to Australia, where he gained extensive professional and academic experience, including more than five years in IT management at the University of Wollongong. He returned to NUST with a broader international perspective and has since contributed to both its academic and technology landscape.

Dr Qazi has served as a faculty member at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS), where he has been involved in teaching and research in computing, network security, and related areas. Prior to his appointment as Chief Technology Officer, he served as Director ICT (Operations), leading key initiatives in ICT infrastructure, enterprise systems, data centre operations, networks, cybersecurity, and digital services.

As Chief Technology Officer, Dr Qazi provides strategic leadership for NUST’s technology ecosystem, with a focus on strengthening digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise technology, innovation, and digital transformation across the University. His areas of expertise include Network and Cybersecurity, Secure Software Development, ICT Infrastructure, Cloud Technologies, Enterprise IT, and Technology Strategy.

With a career that has taken him from NUST to Australia and back, Dr. Qazi remains committed to using technology to create a more connected, secure, innovative, and digitally enabled NUST.
